Blade Runner 2049 is an upcoming American science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. Principal photography took place in Budapest, Hungary between July and November 2016. A selection of excerpts (lasting 15 seconds) was released as a trailer tease on May 5, 2017, in the lead-up to the full trailer, which was released on May 8, 2017. A second trailer was released on July 17, 2017, and it is released in the United States on October 6, 2017, in 2D, 3D, and IMAX.
Living up to the looks of Blade Runner, Ridley Scott’s 1982 science-fiction classic, was stressful for Renée April. She began designing costumes for Blade Runner 2049, the sequel starring Ryan Gosling, with the bar already set pretty high, she said. Over-the-top zoot suits slashed stockings and other fashions that mixed punk and noir had made Scott’s hyper-futuristic world unmistakable.
The atmosphere of the original film, starring Harrison Ford as the troubled hunter of android replicants, was “dark, ominous, always raining, but this world is brutal,” she says. “It’s snowing, freezing, pollution everywhere.
